The EU is aware of the challenge related to the reform of agriculture, but Moldova would face them also without DCFTA, if it wants to modernise and boost its production and export capacity. This is costly, but the Government of Moldova has recognised this basing this reform on EU experience is the right direction and its priority, and has adopted an ambitious plan for reform. Furthermore, the EU is assisting Moldova with a specific programme (ENPARD) and devotes substantial financial and advisory assistance to modernise its legislation. The DCFTA is designed to help in modernisation but the necessary flanking measures to make the change sustainable also need to be developed by the Moldovan Government. EU has already and will continue to assist Moldova in these efforts.
