The World Bank will provide 80 million dollars for local road rehabilitation in Moldova

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, held a meeting with the Country Manager of the World Bank in Moldova, Alex Kremer. They exchanged views on socio-economic development of Moldova, as well as on the partnership of our country with the World Bank (WB).

The two officials noted the dynamism of bilateral relations and opportunities to strengthen the cooperation between the Government and the World Bank. Alex Kremer pointed out the interest of the World Bank to support economic and institutional reforms and the level of living standards in Moldova.

The officials discussed about the participation of Moldovan representatives at the spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, which will take place in Washington on 15-17 April and about the perspectives of negotiating a new agreement with the IMF. Alex Kremer has welcomed the recent approval of the package of laws aiming to strengthen the independence of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) and the National Commission for Financial Market and cooperation between authorities in preparation of a new draft on declaration of personal assets and interests.

The officials also referred to the technical issues concerning the preparation and launch of projects financed by the World Bank. In this context, Alex Kremer announced that yesterday has been signed the Financing Agreement regarding the local road rehabilitation (300 km), which provides assistance of 80 million dollars and is expected to be signed and ratified by the Moldovan authorities.
