The Second Meeting of EU-Moldova Association Committee in Trade Configuration was held in Chisinau on October 22. The goal was to evaluate the process of implementation of the Association Agreement / DCFTA during a year.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the national public institutions and members of the European Commission. The event was chaired by the Deputy Minister Octavian Calmic from the Republic of Moldova and Luc Devigne, Head of Unit in the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission.
The EU welcomed the progress made in priority areas derived from the commitments under the DCFTA. These includes the progress achieved on technical barriers to trade chapter, development and approval of the draft law on market surveillance by the Government, general product safety, consumer rights and a number of draft laws in market surveillance and quality infrastructure. The adoption of standards are carried out according to the National Standardization Program for 2015.
At the same time, it was stressed out the evolution of external trade for 2014-2015. In January - August 2015 exports of goods to EU countries increased to 61,9 %, while imports registered a slight decrease and represents 49.1%. Also, the Moldovan authorities have pledged to continue reforms in sanitary and phytosanitary domain fully implementing the recommendations of the European Commission to obtain the right to export products of animal origin to EU.
Ultimately, the Deputy Minister Octavian Calmac, thanked the European Commission for their participation and financial support in the implementation of the DCFTA.
