On 17 October in Brussels was held the second Association Council meeting between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Daniela Morari, and the EU delegation was headed by Luc Devigne, Director for Eastern Partnership, Russia, Central Asia and OSCE in the European External Action Services.
The discussions has been focused on the implementation of the Association Agreement in several areas, including political dialogue and reform; freedom, security and justice; economic and sectoral cooperation, and the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
In the section devoted to political dialogue and reforms has been discussed a particular topic, especially the presidential elections and how the recommendations of international organizations are fulfilled.
EU reiterated its availability to support the Republic of Moldova in implementing these reforms, noting in particular the assistance program for public administration reform. In this respect, the Moldovan authorities were encouraged to ensure the implementation of reforms by including in this process the local authorities.
At the chapters on judiciary reform and fight against corruption were presented details of the new package of laws adopted under the Moldova’s Priority Reform Action Roadmap, but also information on their implementation. The economic area was marked by the dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the IMF, including the implementation of relevant recommendations of the banking sector.
At the same time, the members of the Republic of Moldova – European Union Domestic Advisory groups met on October 19 under the provisions of Chapter 13 on Trade and Sustainable Development of the Association Agreement. During the meeting has been discussed the implementation of recommendations mentioned in the Declaration of the first Joint Dialogue Forum from July 7, 2015.
