New EU-funded Technical Assistance Project in support to the implementation of the DCFTA Launched

On Wednesday, 21 October 2015 the EU-funded project: “Technical Assistance for the implementation of the EU - Republic of Moldova Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement” was officially launched.

The official project launch was organised by the Moldovan Ministry of Economy and included official opening statements by, amongst others, HE Stephane Bride, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Moldova and HE Pirkka Tapiola, EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

The European Union is supporting the implementation of EU-Republic of Moldova Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement through a variety of aid instruments including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement Sector Reform Contract (DCFTA SRC). The total EU financial assistance provided through the DCFTA BSP for the period 2014-2016 will be EUR 30 million, with the focal intervention areas being quality infrastructure, market surveillance, small and medium sized enterprise promotion, export development and foreign investment attraction and creating awareness on the DCFTA in the Republic of Moldova.

In this context, the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola, outlined the role of this new and other past and on-going projects in assisting the Government of Moldova in successfully implementing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and stated: “This new DCFTA Technical Assistance Project will undoubtedly contribute to the successful implementation of a key element of the EU-Republic Moldova Association Agreement, namely the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area by concrete reform actions in the field of quality infrastructure, market surveillance, small and medium sized enterprise support, export and investment promotion and DCFTA visibility and awareness, ultimately leading to more exports from Moldova to the EU and the creation of new jobs in the country, especially women jobs”.

Background information: The official project launch of the DCFTA Technical Assistance Project was attended by over 30 participants including officials from quality infrastructure, market surveillance, SME development and trade and investment promotion state bodies, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, other international projects, experts of the project and the Moldovan press and media.
