Every year, on the 9th of May is celebrated the Europe Day. The date marks the historic day when it has been pronounced the Schuman declaration. In a speech in Paris in 1950, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, proposed the establishment of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, to eliminate for all future times the possibility of a renewed outbreak of war between European nations. Robert Schuman's proposal is considered the cornerstone of the European Union.
The EU institutions organizes every year at this time various activities and events for all ages. Every year, thousands of citizens participate in the visits, debates, concerts and other events to celebrate Europe Day and to raise awareness about the EU.
In the Republic of Moldova the events on Europe Day 2016 will be held on May 14 and will be organized by the EU Delegation in Moldova. This year the "European Village" will be set up in the Public Garden "Stefan cel Mare" in the capital.
"The European Village in 2016" will have a diverse program: EU assistance opportunities, culture and European cuisine, activities for children, school European languages, artistic programs.As usual, at the "European Village", the participating embassies will present characteristic elements of their country and the most delicious traditional dishes.
Apart from the "European Village", that has already become a tradition, throughout the month of May are expected exhibitions, workshops, cultural events, debates and presentations to inform the public about the EU and at the end of May is planned a football tournament.
Also, for the first time it will be held a competition for the best street art work on "Europe Day". The contest will take place during 10-13 May and aims to promote the street art of young artists and to renovate urban areas of the city in the style of capitals of the EU member states. On May 14 will be designated the most successful works and awarded prizes.
According to the Action Plan of the Government marking Europe Day in the Republic of Moldova, the state institutions will organize a series of activities to promote the European values and EU-funded projects.
