Between April and June 2016, annual surveys were carried out across six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). The research was conducted within the framework of the EU-funded “OPEN Neighbourhood - Communicating for a stronger partnership: connecting with citizens across the Eastern Neighbourhood” (EU Neighbours East) project.

The purpose of these annual surveys is to investigate the opinion and the level of information that the citizens of the EaP countries have, in general, about the EU and, in particular, about EU-funded cooperation and development programmes/projects. In order to monitor changes over time, the surveys will be carried out annually for the next 3 years.

This document represents the results of the Annual survey - 1st wave conducted in Moldova and covers the following broad topics:
1. General perceptions about the EU;
2. Values associated with the EU;
3. Assessment of EU relations with Moldova;
4. Awareness of Financial support provided by the EU and assessment of its effectiveness;
5. Sources of information;
6. Country evaluation and future expectations.

The first wave of the surveys places particular emphasis on collecting data about sources of information used by citizens in order to support the implementation of effective awareness-raising and information campaigns.
