The EBRD will offer 41 million Euro for the extension of the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni till Chişinău. The total value of the project was estimated to 93 million Euro. At the same time, the European Bank for Investments will offer a loan, and the European Union will co-finance the project.
The purpose of the project is to increase the energy security of the country through the diversification of gas supply sources. Also, it will include a plan of reformation and liberalization of energy sector.
Thus, it is going to be built a new gas pipeline that will bring gas to the capital of Moldova from Romania. The new network will be 120 km long, with a diameter of 600 mm, with a capacity of 1,5 billion cubic meters per year, being connected to the gas infrastructure network existent in Ungheni and Iaşi.
We specify that the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline is the biggest project of interconnection of the gas transportation systems between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, that cost 26 million Euro, from which 7 million Euro represents a grant from the EU.
The gas pipeline, with a total length of 43 kilometers, has a capacity of 1,5 billion cubic meters of gas, from which, initially, from Romania will be delivered a volume of up to 50 million cubic meters per year.
